Hello

Hello, I’m Gary. My journey with EPIDEMEK is rooted in a connection that began over 15 years ago. I first met Tim while serving as a volunteer at the correctional facility where he was held, and during that time, I had the privilege of acting as his mentor. Watching his transformation over the years fueled my own commitment to ensuring that those within the system have the guidance and support they need to succeed long before they return home.

With over four decades of experience in higher education, organizational development, and social justice, I’ve dedicated my life to building cultures of respect and accountability. Today, I use my professional expertise and my deep history with Tim to support the EPIDEMEK mission, providing the mentorship and strategic vision necessary to help our community thrive.

My Experience

Gary Hines is a results-oriented leader whose career spans more than four decades in higher education, diversity management, organizational development, and community activism. Known for his strategic vision and commitment to social justice, he has helped organizations and communities strengthen equity, improve communication, and build cultures grounded in respect and accountability.

Hines began his professional career in higher education, holding key positions at Kean University, William Paterson College, Delaware State University, and the University of Michigan–Flint. At Michigan, he served as Associate Dean for Student Services and Director of Counseling and Student Development, overseeing more than a dozen student service units and a staff of over 40 professionals. He earned recognition from the National Education Association for developing retention programs, securing grants—including two Upward Bound awards—and building inclusive systems that improved student success and campus climate.

Transitioning to the private sector, Hines became a management consultant with Pope & Associates, one of the nation’s early and successful diversity management firms. He founded GPH Consulting Group, where he provided diversity and inclusion consulting, organizational assessments, conflict resolution training, and leadership development. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies,  such as General Motors, Abbott Laboratories, Monsanto, Eli Lilly, and Procter & Gamble, as well as non-profits, hospitals, and universities.

Trained in Peace & Nonviolence by the esteemed Dr. Bernard Lafayette, a deputy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Hines is deeply committed to social justice and community service. Hines has organized numerous civic initiatives, including Butler County’s first HBCU and Civil Rights Tour, minority franchise fairs, parent advocacy training, and economic empowerment efforts. He has taught and consulted at three correctional institutions in Ohio through Wilmington College. In addition, he has partnered with local leaders and the U.S. Department of Justice to strengthen community–police relations and is a recipient of the “Friend of LULAC” award. Most recently, he served as a community facilitator for City Gospel.

He was a founding Board member of Co-op Cincy and an active member of the Central Community Health Board (Cincinnati).

Hines lives in West Chester, Ohio, with his wife, Dr. Cynthia Pinchback-Hines, and they are the proud parents of two adult children and grandparents of two grandsons.
